Allergies are the overreacts to certain substances (allergens) of the immune system.
Allergic reactions occur mainly due to the overstimulation of certain white blood cells when exposed to foreign antigens called allergens. Binding of the allergen to Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies on the surface of basophils or mast cells (MAST cells) triggers these cells to secrete chemical mediators of hypersensitivity i.e. then. Common allergy symptoms include mild allergies, causing symptoms such as asthma, eczema, rashes, dermatitis, allergic conjunctivitis, itching and runny nose. For some people, severe allergies to environmental and food allergens or certain medications can cause life-threatening anaphylactic reactions (anaphylactic shock).
According to statistics: Allergies are currently ranked fourth among chronic diseases by the World Health Organization and double every 15 years.
- About 6% of Vietnamese people have food allergies
- Respiratory allergies affect 10% of the population, allergic rhinitis accounts for 32.2% of ENT diseases...
- Environmental allergies account for 25% (of which seasonal allergies ~15%, year-round allergies: 10%).
Currently, there are many allergy testing methods such as: skin prick test, skin pressure test, stimulation test, blood test (serum IgE). Among them, allergy testing by blood is a method with many outstanding advantages: unaffected by drugs (antihistamines), can test for numerous of allergens, and does not depend on the skill of the testers, the process is simple, and time to return result is fast.
